The NTIC in Alsace

Alsace, in spite of a strong rate of equipment and technical structures, remains behind as for the of development of the NTIC. This is why the local communities, under the impulse of the Regional Council and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, undertook a wave of modernization concerning several points:

• The construction of a broadband network flow in Alsace: this backbone will allow the small towns to be reached by Internet operators (standard cable or ADSL) more easily, by bringing the network access points closer. Currently, small towns find themselves without any connection to the Internet because the operators cannot invest the necessary funds to deploy physical networks.
• The development of the NTIC in the Alsatian companies: the report which was made during studies undertaken lately by the CCI of Alsace shows that Alsatian companies are neglecting the use of the Internet. Thus funds are given to allow all, including small and average sized companies to develop data-processing networks and to use Internet efficiently (commercial gates...)

The stake for the Regional Council is to create a regional dynamic around the NTIC, and the GIX is one of the elements of this dynamic. EuroGIX could become a federating and accelerating element of the all the forces of the regional Internet protagonists.
