The Alsace region is a dynamic region and has a unique geographical and economical situation in France, even in Europe. Indeed,
it cumulates advantages which should make it one of the main regions of the European Community:
Alsace is located on the London - Frankfurt - Zurich - Milan axis. This axis, the Euro Ring, is the 3rd axis in the world
concerning information exchanges. Strasbourg must benefit from this situation and reach the same level of the main European
cities of Communication.
A comparative study of the BAK (Basel, Switzerland) company shows that "the superior Rhine region is equipped with a technical
infrastructure higher than the international average. Nowhere else in the world could there be such a dense level of connections
to a digital network. As for the cable, only the USA can best the region."
Strasbourg is one of the European capitals and the 2nd French money market, and must have an effective communication structure.
For all these reasons, Alsace has to take on a project like the GIX. Indeed, in addition to the fact of attracting a numbers
of investors and Internet protagonists to Strasbourg’s metropolis, EuroGIX can also improve the flow performances of an Alsatian
Internet infrastructure under development. In term, the EuroGIX project will lead to the following diagram of interconnection,
with connection towards Paris, Germany and Switzerland, and a presence on the "London - Milan" Euro Ring
